SERVICES

RESEARCH, INNOVATION And DEVELOPMENT OF BIOPLASTIC COMpounds

SeaBird supports your innovation

Our expertise encompasses several key competencies with a focus on innovation:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of polymer science and bioplastics
  • Development of strategies for polymer blends
  • Technical support for the industrial implementation of our compounds

DEvelopment and implementation

Development and production of bioplastic compounds

Our pilot compounding line allows us to provide customized solutions for your project, whether it involves developing a bespoke compound or producing your specific formulation. We support your transition projects, including:

  • Substituting conventional plastics to reduce your carbon footprint
  • Integrating co-products for their valorization
  • Modulating end-of-life options to suit your product's use
  • Adapting our "off-the-shelf" formulations to meet your specifications
  • Functionalizing bioplastics to offer specific properties

Industrial Support

SeaBird assists plastic industry companies in transitioning to new biosourced and/or biodegradable materials. This change does not require new machinery investments, as bioplastics are compatible with traditional plastic processing tools. SeaBird provides tailored advice and implementation protocols to suit your materials and processes.

Rheological Characterization

SeaBird has a characterization laboratory equipped with a capillary rheometer, allowing for precise analysis of the viscosity of materials: bioplastic compounds and conventional polymers. This relatively complex equipment is a key tool for adapting our formulations to your technical needs.

Mechanical characterization

SeaBird has a universal tensile testing machine that allows for the characterization of the mechanical properties of your materials in various forms (test specimens, films, filaments, or monofilaments). These measurements provide essential information about the properties of your materials and their compliance with established expectations.

Ageing by abrasion

SeaBird is equipped with an abrasion machine suitable for material samples in the form of filaments, monofilaments, nets, or films. After establishing a test protocol, SeaBird performs characterizations of your materials under various abrasion conditions, either in air or water.

Aging and Monitoring of Finished Products in Real Conditions

Since its inception, SeaBird has naturally turned towards the marine environment. Various formulations have been developed for this application domain. To study the behavior and aging of finished products made from our formulations, we conduct real-time monitoring at sea to evaluate the product's usage duration in the marine environment and its lifespan.

Thus, we offer to monitor the real-life aging of your biodegradable products. After defining a protocol, we place the samples in the marine environment and perform regular sampling over time.

Depending on your needs, we can offer to monitor different parameters at defined intervals, ranging from simple visual aspects to the quantification of mechanical property losses according to the duration and conditions of immersion.

You can thus monitor the evolution of your product in its usage environment (if it is intended to be used at sea) and estimate the lifespan of a product that might be accidentally lost at sea with the aim of environmental preservation.

state of the art

Regarding materials

We can perform a customized state-of-the-art review or bibliographic summary on topics related to bioplastics. SeaBird indeed constantly conducts bibliographic and competitive monitoring. This allows us to stay up-to-date with the latest innovations constantly evolving in the field of bioplastics.
